We’re thrilled to share that our founder and Executive Producer, Dustyn Baulkham, has been appointed General Manager of the 2026 Unison Festival, a national gathering that celebrates queer choral music and community!

The Unison Festival brings together over 25 2SLGBTQIA+ choirs from across Canada and is set to take place May 15–18, 2026 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver. It will welcome 800–900 delegates, artists, and allies for four days of performances, workshops, and joyful connection.

This year’s festival is rooted in the beautiful and powerful theme: “Music Healing Spirit.”

Inspired by the teachings and artwork of 2-Spirit artist Chase Gray, the theme honours the role of music in personal, cultural, and communal healing.

❗What does this mean for Rebellious Unicorns?

We’re still here. Still queer. Still doing all the things.

Dustyn remains fully involved in Rebellious Unicorns and will continue to lead our programming, partnerships, and long-term vision. Everything we’ve planned for the rest of 2025 and beyond is going ahead full glitter:

✔️ Friends of Dorothy – Kelowna is still going strong with Dustyn as General Manager. Expect fabulous shows, amazing food (returning soon), and all the drag, bingo, and brunch you can handle.

✔️ Kelowna Pride 2025 —with Dustyn continuing to help produce the main festival, the Trans & Enby Celebration (sept 25).

✔️ Our signature RU events like Naughty Bingo, Peak Pride, and Queerprenuers Unleashed are still very much on the calendar.

🦄 TL;DR? Dustyn’s taking on more—but not letting go of anything.

This new chapter with Unison is a celebration of everything we’ve built together—and a chance to bring those values to the national stage. Thank you for continuing to support Rebellious Unicorns and the work we do in community.
